Ryan Serhant was born on July 2, 1984, in Houston, Texas. He grew up in Topsfield, Massachusetts, in the North Shore region of Boston, where he attended Pingree Schools.
Serhant attended Perry-Mansfield Performing Arts School & Camp while spending summers with family in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
Ryan Serhant graduated from Hamilton College in 2006 with Degrees in English, Literature, and Theatre. At Hamilton College, he double majored in English Literature and Theatre.
He was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity.
Career and Growth
Serhant moved to New York City for a starring role on the iconic Soap Opera, “As the World Turns.”
He took the advice of a friend and decided to pursue a career in real estate after two year of settling in New York.
In September 2008, Ryan Serhant began his first day in the real estate business – the same day that Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy in the wake of the sub-prime mortgage collapse.
Serhant walked into the offices of Nest Seekers International, one of the largest real estate brokerage firms in New York City, and was offered a job.
Serhant’s tireless work ethic paid off and he was quickly promoted to Executive Vice President and Managing Director of Nest Seekers International after five years of hardwork.
In the first quarter of 2018, Ryan and his team had already sold over $200M in prime real estate and another $124M in the contract.
In 2017 Ryan and his team sold and closed $838M worth of real estate.
For the past 5 years, His team have ranked in the TOP FIVE Sales Teams Nationwide in the annual Wall Street Journal Real Trends Report and currently are #1 in NYC and #2 in the country.
Ryan and his team are also the #1 residential sales team in Manhattan and the #5 sales team in Brooklyn, as ranked by The Real Deal for 2017.
Ryan is consistently the youngest team leader in the TOP 10, year after year.

In 2018 he launched his own media and entertainment company, Servant Media Group (SMG).
His sales book of the same name was published by Hachette in September, 2018. Ryan’s first sales masterclass in New York City sold out immediately.
Ryan is also a frequent contributor to the real estate segments of 20/20, CNN, CNBC, The Today Show, The Insider, and Bloomberg TV.
He is the real estate correspondent for the Daily Mail TV and is often quoted in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Wall Street Journal China, and Forbes.
Serhant is an American actor, real estate agent, and reality star who has a net worth of $20 million dollars.
Ryan Servant did have a rough start in his real estate career, he recalled the first three years in New York wasn’t the bed of roses. He sure knows how to develop thick skin and stay positive in time of crisis.
Serhant believes the timing of his first day of work actually ended up as a positive thing for him.
“In hindsight, it was the absolute best time for me to start,” “Brokers were abandoning the business left and right, and I was probably the only agent in my office — maybe the city — with a smile on my face. I was just excited to get started!” He remembers.
Serhant had moved to New York City two years earlier as an aspiring actor before deciding to get his real estate license. He said in a recent interview that he made only $9,000 his first year as a real estate agent — less than he’d made the previous year from hand modelling and the odd acting gig.
“I kind of started from ground zero, in a really, really tough market, obviously, where a lot of people were losing their jobs, people couldn’t get financing to close real estate deals, so, all of my initial deals were really, really difficult.”
Even though Serhant says he “mentally quit the business once per week” during the roughest stretches, the fact that he had struggled to make ends meet before actually helped him stay positive.
“I was just excited to have an office with a computer and a business card,” Serhant jokes.
Serhant hustled to pick up any clients he could, even posting ads for his services on Craigslist. He also took the market collapse as an opportunity to learn new skills that tend to be overlooked in healthier financial markets.
“I learned everything that agents working in a boom market never have to involve themselves in.”
“I learned how to do loans; I learned the contract process in and out; I learned how to negotiate in dire circumstances, and I learned how to sell when nothing was selling.”
He said,” The first couple of years in the real-estate business in New York City are terrible — like, you make no money.
“And there was this one guy in the office who was crushing it, like, every day, and he was about my age, right, and he just did so well, and I had no idea how he did it because we were basically like the same person.
“And I thought: Well, I went to a better school. I did this. I did that. Why is this guy so much better, and why do I suck?”
”I don’t think I would be where I am today had I not gone through that difficult period, and really learned the tools of the trade during the recession,” he says.
Those initial hurdles he overcame helped him in gaining a foothold in the real estate industry that he eventually grew into a massively successful business.
“Never in my wildest dreams did I think that 10 years later I would do [$100 million] in deals over spotty Wi-Fi while on safari in South Africa,” Serhant said.
“Success to me when I first got into the business was paying my rent on time, and it was like $1,100 a month, every month. If I could do that and maybe, like, save a month’s worth of rent, I was a freaking success”.
“Now things have changed. And so I use that fear of not having money and needing to make money, but I balanced it out with this kind of confidence of building my personality and coming out of my shell, and kind of treating it like an acting job, like an improv class”.
“Everyone I met I was going to adapt to the way they wanted to see me, and I was going to sell the real estate, even though I had no idea what I was doing”.
He will star in and produce his own sales show called “Sell it Like Serhant”, premiering on Bravo in 2018.
